A Conversation with Ashley Ramey, Founder of Hello Weekend

This week, we sat down (virtually) with Ashley Ramey, founder of Hello Weekend, to discuss all things blogging, style, and careers. Keep scrolling for more!

Tell us a little about yourself.

Hi guys! My name is Ashley and I’m a self-proclaimed shopaholic who drinks too much coffee and binges The Office on the daily. I love cooking, reading, and hiding impulse purchase packages from my husband – where we live in a suburb right outside of NYC. I also love finding the latest trends and creating content for my blog, Hello Weekend, in hopes of inspiring readers.

You first got into the blogging world right out of college with your “OG blog,” Ashley’s Closet. Why did you make the decision to evolve Ashley’s Closet into Hello Weekend & Co? How would you describe Hello Weekend?

I started Ashley’s Closet in college and continued to post on affordable fashion for about a year or two post-college. I took a break from blogging for a few years to concentrate on my television career and trying to carve a path for myself in the fast-paced NYC environment. I have always loved home decor and fashion, so I really dove into starting Hello Weekend shortly after I got married in 2018. I remember sitting around thinking of fun blog names and Hello Weekend instantly clicked with me. I love the weekends (who doesn’t?) and I felt like I could create not only a blog, but a brand around the notion of the weekend. Once I got married, I was craving for something else to occupy my free time outside of work and since then, I’ve been working on growing and improving my blog!

By day, you’re an Associate Producer at Hearst Communications. How has your background in media contributed to your success as a blogger? Do the two go hand-in-hand?

I worked in daytime television for the first five years of my professional career and recently wanted to get into the digital world – which is what I got into at Hearst. I think by being in a creative environment and being able to work with so many different people in the fashion and entertainment industry, it’s allowed me to absorb everything like a sponge and be able to incorporate it into my own work. I would say my style and outlook on blogging and creating content has really changed in the past year.

Where do you find inspiration?

I get a lot of inspiration from Pinterest and just by scrolling on my Instagram feed and seeing what other content creators are doing. I like seeing what’s on-trend and then I try to take that and spin it into something that works with my style.

What advice do you have for anyone looking to start a blog? What do you wish you knew when you were starting out?

I’m definitely no pro, but if you’re looking to start a blog – I would say start with research. Grab a notebook and pen and as you’re browsing different blogs, layouts, themes, etc., write down what you like and what you’d want to incorporate in your blog. Also, think about how your blog differs from everyone else’s, but have fun with it. If you’re thinking of taking up blogging, it’s probably because you enjoy writing and sharing your expertise on whatever your subject is. The moment you stop having fun with it and taking it too seriously – it will seem more like a job and less of a hobby.

Where do you see yourself and Hello Weekend in five years?

I would love to be doing this (blogging and content creating) full time. I would love to grow my merchandise as well – so stay tuned for more fun products to come in the near future. 🙂
