I can confidently say at the end of month 2 in quarantine that, during my forced furlough, I’ve played with more makeup looks than can be numerically quantified. I know you makeup lovers out (“in” might be more appropriate) there can relate. Having slayed many a full-face over these 60-something days, a definitive brand favorite of mine has emerged: Anastasia Beverly Hills.
We know you needed another reason to impulsively shop online, so here it is—WITW’s top 3 ABH picks for summer! Let’s throw it back to our top 5 skincare picks for all skin types and break this one down by category.
Keep reading to find our brand top picks for brows, eyes, and face.
Category A: Brows
Discovering pomades a few years back revolutionized my brow routine irrevocably. Unfortunately, since I have combination-oily-and-dry skin, most formulas would melt off of my face shortly after application. This problem was especially prevalent during the hot months of summer. ABH’s DIPBROW really did the thing and graced my face with a waterproof formula that does not move, rain or sweaty sunshine. I mix shades Medium Brown and Ash Brown for the most exact match to my hair color in warmth and deepness of tone.
Bonus—for anyone wondering why I prefer pomade over pencil or powder—I like a more bold finish. Combination pencil/pomade is what you’re seeing with the “Instagram brow” trend. ABH has a great pencil option for more natural looks with their Brow Wiz.
Category B: Face
The new ABH x Nicole Guerriero collab just says summer in a sultry whisper. There is a sparkly, sunkissed shade for everyone in this glow kit. Let’s open her up:
For this look I used shades Kitty Kat and Forever Lit. As mentioned above, there’s a little glam for everyone here. The shades range from shimmer to glitter finish-wise. The two I used have more of the glowy/dewy effect. Regardless of which pan you dip into, you will be bright as the summer sun! One thing I will say—payoff is different than how most of these look in the pan. I was expecting Kitty Kat to have a pink hue for blush, but it’s actually more of a warm gold. Forever Lit is true to color from the pan to your skin.
Honorable mention: My makeup tends to wear in an oily and slippery fashion, particularly in my t-zone. Dermablend’s Loose Setting Powder in shade Warm Saffron keeps my natural face oils at bay and gives an airbrushed finish for your professional-looking MUE selfies.
Category C: Eyes
In general, the Norvina Collection is a big win for summer neons. But I wanted to get my brush wet before purchasing a whole palette’s worth; the Mini Pro Pigment palettes are perfect for just that purpose! Vol. 1 in particular spoke to my soft-glam heart, with a little twist:
Neons! For shade reference, from top to bottom, the top row of three colors is A1-3; the middle row is B1-3; and the bottom row is C1-3. The full-size palletes’s pans are named accordingly. My look involved shades A1, B1, and C1. The formula is super blendable. This blendability made for a beautiful gradient effect that was not terribly difficult to achieve. One drawback I found is that A1 practically disappears after an hour of wear.
Bonus: Going back to my face, Kitty Kat from the ABH x Nicole Guerriero didn’t have that blush effect I was looking for. Kaja’s Beauty Bento Bouncy Shimmer Eyeshadow Trio in Glowing Guava did the trick! It is intended for eyes, but the adorable trio have become my low-maintenance staple for daily wear makeup. I will typically use the top two shades for blush and highlight, then the bottom shade for eyes.
