You might have noticed an interesting development in ads while scrolling through your Instagram feed lately: more and more brands are utilizing a diverse cast of models. Popular brands the plus-sized and stylish could only dream of sporting have opened department store doors to the forbidden garden. Let’s explore WITW’s top 3 (finally) plus-friendly brands you quite possibly missed rocking with inclusive new sizes.
1. Dolls Kill
This one is for all of you fabulously alternative plus people. The brand built “by the counterculture, for the counterculture” is expanding their iconic collections up to size 3X. Dolls Kill has improved majorly here, as in the past you’d be hard-pressed to find an oversized tee to comfortably fit an XL. Their latest “Good Girls, Bad Habits” collab with Sugar Thrillz offers a respectable amount of plus options that evoke the flowery brightness of spring—with a little punch. Their floral mini-dress gave me spring fever, and has been carted.
2. American Eagle
AE has been steadily bolstering their plus options over the past two years, and what once was a “secret section” at the back of their stores has taken center-stage in recent ads. I’ve always been partial to their denim. The just-right fit I’ve enjoyed has opened up to include size 24 in regular, long, or short for most styles. A high-waisted jegging from the brand has always been the staple item in my wardrobe. Now it can be yours, too. Here’s my favorite pair right now.
Speaking of staple items, classic black 3-stripe tights from Adidas complete any sporty/casual look. You can imagine my frustration while trying the biggest size offered in-store and still not procuring the right fit. Well, struggle and squeeze no more. Adidas now offers up to 4X in almost any pant you’d like. Adidas and other athletic wear brands are making great strides to diversify their racks, and their ads. I have my eye on these spring-sporty/casual ⅞ tights.
We appreciate emerging brands like Tamara Malas and Universal Standard that have served plus since day one. Drop us a line in the comments below if we missed any of your favorites!
